This project began with research into secret societies like the Illuminati and historically documented occultists. What fascinated me was the way in which such societies and conspiracies exist on the fringes of accepted knowledge. For some, they belonged in the past, whilst for others, they remain sinister and covertly influential. In this work, I have created external representations of such beliefs with secret society signifiers that bring to mind ritual, mystery and intrigue. The images take inspiration from cinematic aesthetics and narrative but also raise a more serious concern, namely our appetite for conspiracy theories and belief in something beyond the reality of our day to day experience.
